So what is life all about? The search for meaning in life is a quest that I feel can only be found in Jesus Christ. So what did He tell us?
In Matthew 28:16-17: “Now the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain to which Jesus had directed them. 17When they saw him, they worshipped him; but some doubted.”
First we need to take into account what has transpired immediately before this passage. Christ had been crucified and resurrected from the dead. This passage begins with the eleven disciples going to the mountain as Jesus had instructed them to do.
Matthew 28:18-20a continues: 18And Jesus came and said to them, ‘All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you.”
Often we feel inadequate. We wonder if we can ever prepare enough to serve him. Our spirit is willing, but our flesh is weak. Yet, look at the eleven apostles… even they had doubts. Christ entrusted the mission of converting the world to eleven people who were unsure of their faith!
Every Christian is a minister. Jesus commanded us to share the Gospel with others. There are many people among us that need to know the love of Jesus Christ. Everyone needs a Savior because we cannot save ourselves.
But Jesus did not stop there… Jesus gave us a promise. In Matthew 28:20 Jesus continues: “I am with you always, to the close of the age.”
John Wesley understood this promise well as he conveyed this on his deathbed, “The best of all is, God is with us!” What more could we want? May God fill your heart with his presence and love!
